Actuncan stands out for being a large village with a 27 meter high pyramid one kilometer from Xuantunich. Actuncan has disclosed some elaborate stucco masks on the pyramid face, dating back half a millennium or more before Xunantunich's heyday. It also yielded a fragmentary carved stelae, dated by its style to the first century AD. Actuncan (300 BC) seems the likely local predecessor of the ridge-top center of Xunantunich (250 - 1000 AD).
