Early Peten Style
150 BC - 350 C.E. or the Early Classic period
Characterized by large modeled stucco masks decorating both sides of the stairways of main pyramidal platforms. Examples of these are found in Uaxactun, El Mirador and Tikal as well as in Coba. The masonry is crude and roughly cut depending on a thick layer of stucco to even out surface imperfections. Spaces were roofed with Mayan corbeled archways built on stepped slabs.
