- The pre-Hispanic name of the place is not known; during the colonial time it was called San Felipe Calvario and in 1895 changed to Alzati. The last name of the brothers Jose Maria, Marcos and Darío, local heroes of the French intervention. Only the ceremonial zone has been uncovered due to the lack of in depth archaeological exploration. It is possible to date the archaeological site of San Felipe the Alzati in the Late Post-Classic period (1200-1500 AD.), characterized in Mesoamérica by the presence of towns with strong militaristic tendency.
