Kinichna consists of a two-level pyramidal mound split into Acropolis B and Acropolis C. The pyramid House of the Sun was apparently dedicated to the sun god. The two mounds at the foot of the pyramid suggest that the temple was a ceremonial site, thought to have been built in the Middle Classic Period to Late Classic Period 200 C.E. to 600 C.E.. Here a giant Olmec-style jade figure was found. Kinichna residents had access to Dzibanche through various sacbe (roads). At its summit, Kinichna "House of the Sun" affords one of the finest views of any archaeological site in the area.
